The Living Gallery Outpost Announces Their First Ever Artists-in-Residence, Katarra Peterson & Elizabeth Velazquez

The Living Gallery Outpost is excited to announce the Artists-in-Residence for their first ever “Living Studio” Artist Residency Program – Katarra Peterson and Elizabeth Velazquez.

“We were so impressed by both artists’ styles and skills. I cannot wait to see how they transform the space into their own vision”, says Alexandria Hodgkins, one of the space’s co-founders and coordinator of the project.

The two artists had never met prior to this residency, but their work touches upon similar themes of identity, and an aligned visual style made it possible to bring them together. The three women met to discuss how to share the space and envision what form their final show would take.

“I’m thrilled to participate in the inaugural residency at The Living Gallery’s new Manhattan outpost. As a woman artist, creating work in a gallery that is owned and operated by women both inspired my process and adds depth to my presentation. I can’t wait to get started” says Katarra Peterson in regards to preparing for the residency.

The benefits of the residency include use of the gallery as an open studio for one week (culminating in a closing exhibition), a stipend for supplies, and a panel of art world professionals (Jess Van Nostrand of MoMa, Joey Frank of Pioneer Works and Etty Yaniv, MFA) to give feedback and support. The project coincides with the 2018 New York Armory Week, and will conclude with a group show for semi-finalists on Friday, March 9th.
